We launched the 25 in 25 Campaign in January to try to increase the number of regular donors to the work of Bethesda. Only about a quarter of our income comes from this source and we have relied on a small number of large gifts to fund the work. This is obviously precarious hence the 25 in 25 campaign to get 25 new regular donors in 2025. Details are in the form below. Do help us if you can.
Key items for your prayers:
For peace in the country and region with fighting in neighbouring DRC, upcoming parliamentary elections , and a continuing border dispute with Rwanda
For a young boy with downs syndrome who fell into a fire and received severe scalp burns. The family cannot afford hospital treatment so Bethesda is paying for this. The team are distributing stoves to vulnerable families which are much safer
Incidences of children with malnutrition are very common. We are investigating broadening the work to help families set up kitchen gardens and keep livestock in addition to our exisiting nutrition education.
The network of facilitators in each group of villages which was set up at the start of 2024 has been very successful at providing continuity of care and coordinating visits from the team. We could do with some more as several cover quite a large geographical area.
Pray for the preparation of a visit from the UK planned for October 2025. . We are hoping to introduce a partner during the visit with expertise in setting up and running rural clinics in Africa.
Give thanks for the dedication of the small team, their enthusiasm, teamwork and concern for the people.
To give an idea of the types of issues the team come across, here are the statistics for just one month - October 2024. It shows the huge range of challenges faced in the six villages they were able to visit.
Helping those who are suffering is just one part of the work. Teaching about the benefits of inclusion, the rights of children and disabled people and helping families towards self-sufficiency are, perhaps, even more important in the long term.
We pray that all might see the love of God for all children, women and men.
We are very grateful to those who donated to pay towards the rather expensive repair of the team's 4x4 Toyota. The turbocharger failed and, although labour is low cost in Burundi, spare parts are anything but!
